The 'Castellum Strabulliano' has a long and storied history!

It was built as a women convent, and got mentioned for the first time in chronicles in the 8th century. In the 13th century, the fortifications and a church were built, which today do not exist anymore. The possession of the monastery was enormous at that time and it was given the official title of 'Castellum' under Emperor Frederick II. In the wars between Siena and Florence, it was the seat of the Sienese commands.
